RockIT Tech News - February 2025

NETWORK INFRASTRUCTURE UPGRADE UPDATE

The RockIT team has chosen to propose that we select the vendor PCS to provide us with Juniper Networks equipment for our infrastructure upgrade. We are confident that this option will best serve staff and students with better and faster wireless connectivity.

Additionally, the RockIT has chosen to propose that we select the vendor LG Fiber to expand our network backbone to include the new ROCK building, where we will be moving the data center.

ANTI-PHISHING EXTENSION DEPLOYED

Phishing attacks on RCS staff and students are on the rise.

All user accounts are now protected by a new anti-phishing service called PhishID. This is a robust, AI-powered detection & protection tool that alerts users to fraudulent websites and credential phishing.

Everyone now has a browser extension called "PIXM Phishing Protection" that will alert you with a red banner on any website that it believes to be untrustworthy.

This service will make identifying phishing sites easier, but it is still up to every member of the RCS family to be diligent in identifying and reporting phishing emails and websites.

INFINITE CAMPUS SINGLE SIGN-ON

The RockIT team has completed the migration for all students districtwide from the basic username & password sign-on in Infinite Campus to signing in via their Google accounts.

Students will go to the same login page, but will now click the "Google Single Sign-On" button.

Additionally, all new student Infinite Campus accounts will automatically be created upon enrollment.

KENTUCKY DATA EXCHANGE

As part of an initiative through KEDC and WKDC, the Kentucky Data Exchange project is working to create a dashboard that uses student performance data, attendance records, behavior records, student and parent surveys, and other relevant metrics to enhance educational outcomes and combat chronic absenteeism.

Rockcastle County Schools is one of six districts statewide to be chosen to be a Phase One participant.

Once the dashboard goes live, seeing a fuller portrait of a learner will be much easier thanks to its analysis tools and data visualizations.

KYSTE CONFERENCE 2025

RCS will have 10 staff members attending the Kentucky Society for Technology in Education (KySTE) conference in March.

This conference is full of sessions detailing innovative ways to use tech in classroom instruction, emerging technology and tends, how to keep students and staff safe from bad actors, and much more.

Attendees will bring back many new and exciting ideas for how best to serve our students with the use of technology.
