RockIT Tech News - December 2024

STUDENT PERSONAL DEVICES NOT ALLOWED

In the past, we have been lenient regarding personal devices. Due to recent security risks affecting district-owned devices, student information, and our obligation to comply with CIPA and FERPA regulations, we must now ask students to refrain from bringing personal devices to school.

For staff, while personal device use is not prohibited at this time, we discourage it for similar reasons. Using personal devices on our network poses significant risks, including the potential for data breaches. If you choose to use a personal device, please do so with full awareness of these risks and take all necessary precautions to safeguard sensitive information.

RCHS STUDENT PASSWORDS CHANGED

RCHS students should now have changed their passwords to something only they know. This enhances not just their own account security, but the security of the entire network.

If any students have not changed their password or encounter issues with the new password, they can see Mrs. Kay Abney at the front desk for assistance.

RCHS STUDENT INFINITE CAMPUS SINGLE SIGN-ON

RCHS students will soon be able to sign in to their Infinite Campus portal with their Google account.

RockIT is working with individuals at Infinite Campus to make this change. We will let you know when this change will go live.

DROPBOX EMAILS BEING REROUTED FOR SAFETY

Due to a statewide Dropbox security vulnerability, all Dropbox emails (no-reply@dropbox.com) will be redirected to Brandon for review before being sent to the user.

We encourage all staff to use their Google Drive and not any other storage. This helps us to minimize potential phishing attacks.

AI, CHEATING, AND INNAPPROPRIATE DEVICE USAGE

Please monitor student devices as much as you can.

Recently, the use of AI for cheating purposes has exploded and several AI sites have been blocked for students.

We encourage the use of AI for learning, but only if used responsibly.

Additionally, multiple music sites have been blocked due to nudity and other inappropriate content in their integrated music videos.
