RockIT Tech News - May 2025

GOGUARDIAN IS LIVE

GoGuardian has officially gone live on all student and staff devices. Its robust filtering is already catching more legitimate issues than Lightspeed.

We understand that many things that were open under Lightspeed are now blocked. The district's whitelist of allowed sites did not transfer over, so we are starting from scratch.

There are several different blocked screens that can appear. Please familiarize yourself with them by clicking here.

If there is a website that is currently being blocked you wish to have evaluated for unblocking, please submit a ticket with the full web address of the blocked site, the type of block screen, and its classroom use.

CHROMEBOOK COLLECTION SCHEDULE

The end of the year is drawing near! That means that it is almost time for the tech team to begin the process of collecting Chromebooks and chargers. Due to the rising cost of chargers and decreasing funding, it is extremely important that we collect every charger possible.

  • 5/20 -- BES (K - 2nd Grade) -- 12:30 PM

  • 5/22 -- RES (K - 3rd Grade) -- 8:30 AM

  • 5/22 -- RCHS (Collect 12th Grade) -- 1:00 PM

  • 5/23 -- MVES (3rd - 5th Grade) -- 8:30 AM

  • 5/23 -- BES (3rd - 5th Grade) -- 12:30 PM

  • 5/26 -- RES (4th - 5th Grade) -- 8:30 AM

  • 5/27 -- RCHS (Return 12th Grade) -- 9:00 AM

  • 5/28 -- RCHS (9th - 12th Grade) -- 2:00 PM

In the month of April (18 in-school days), the tech team repaired or otherwise resolved 182 Chromebook issues. The ticket breakdown is as follows:

  • RCHS - 24

  • RCMS - 86

  • MVES - 46

  • BES - 15

BACK UP YOUR DATA

All staff are very strongly encouraged to back up their data to Google Drive before the end of the school year.

In order to ensure devices continue to function correctly and meet educational needs, updates and upgrades are necessary.

Please operate under the assumption that all staff devices (Chromebooks, desktops, laptops, tablets, and interactive flat panels) will be wiped.

PARENT AND STUDENT COMMUNICATION GOING FORWARD

Due to the passing of Kentucky Senate Bill 181, RCS staff will only be allowed to use Apptegy Rooms and official RCS email accounts to communicate with students and parents beginning July 1st.

Apptegy Rooms is a two-way messaging solution that is directly integrated into the RCS app.

The district will provide training on how to use Apptegy Rooms during the 25-26 Rocket Launch training day.
